Prince Harry Attends Father's Coronation Alone Amid Continuing Family Tensions | the learning pace

Prince Harry made a public appearance at his father's Coronation at Westminster Abbey, where he sat two rows away from his brother. However, his wife Meghan was not present, as she remained in the US. After the ceremony, the Prince left immediately for his return flight from Heathrow. It is noteworthy that he was not invited to appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony along with the King and Queen and other working members of the Royal Family.

Prince Harry Attends Father's Coronation Alone

This marks the first time that Prince Harry has been seen publicly with his family since the release of his controversial memoir, "Spare". The Prince had arrived in the UK from the US on Friday and was left alone in a car after the service. The Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their children, were among the other working members of the Royal Family who joined the King and Queen on the balcony of Buckingham Palace ninety minutes later.

The Duchess of Sussex and their children remained in Los Angeles as Prince Archie celebrated his fourth birthday. Despite this, a source had earlier revealed that Prince Harry intended to make every effort to be back in time for the special day.

At the ceremony, Prince Harry was dressed in a morning suit and medals, and sat alongside his cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank in the third row, beside his uncle the Duke of York, Prince Andrew. The Prince and Princess of Wales, their children Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were seated two rows ahead in the front.

It is worth noting that during the late Queen Elizabeth's funeral last year, Prince Harry was situated in the second row - directly behind the King - at the abbey.

As Prince Harry is no longer a working member of the Royal Family, it was already known that he would attend the ceremony alone without a formal role. Prince Andrew was also in a similar position. Relations between Prince Harry and other family members have been strained since the publication of his memoir, which vividly revealed fall-outs and disagreements with relatives. Prince Harry has also spoken of feeling "different" from the rest of his family.

Meghan's decision to reject the invitation to the ceremony was widely seen as a reflection of the continuing, unresolved tensions within the family. Furthermore, court papers revealed that last month the King attempted to stop Prince Harry from pursuing legal action against newspapers over alleged phone hacking. Prince Harry stated in a witness statement that he was "summoned to Buckingham Palace" and told to drop the cases due to their effect on the family.
